ps. The illustration below is the first non-cat drawing that I've done since my sophomore year of college! All clothes by Lover.

In the previous post I failed to mention that Lipstick is a rape/revenge movie and I do not recommend watching it. Glamourizing and eroticizing rape is beyond disgusting; this film has nothing to offer apart from it's visuals. I've always been attracted to imagery that depicts extreme, artificial notions of femininity or beauty. They are aesthetically pleasing on the surface but ultimately serve to highlight the inherent creepiness behind our cultural ideals for women. Because this is a fashion blog, the intended irony is not always apparent. I've always had a love/hate relationship with fashion and beauty and the content of this blog reflects that.

The logo that I designed for Chelsea (at left) was inspired by these stills from Lipstick that I found on I Love Hot Dogs a few months ago. The movie is supposedly terrible but I love everything about the way it looks.

One thing I miss about the V/Visionaire offices (where I used to intern and occasionally freelance) is seeing Cecilia Dean's outfits on a daily basis. Her style is so unpredictable; one day she looks like Betty Catroux and the next she could be mistaken for the world's chicest yoga instructor. Unbeknowst to her, Cecilia taught me an important lesson about fashion: you can wear anything to work if you have really high shoes. Sweatpants, even. I can't tell you how liberating this realization has been for me. But anyway, the V Blog recently began documenting Cecilia's "Look of the Week" every thursday; all the posts are archived here. And while you're at it, check out my interview with her from Chelsea #1.

My road trip with Megan & Sara is officially over and even though I love being back in New York I really miss life on the road. My favorite purchase from the trip--aside from a sensitively rendered portrait of David Bowie--was a cheap pair of white cat eye glasses that I picked up at a vintage store in Albuquerque. I've been looking for a pair ever since I re-watched The Doom Generation; Megan later told me that she did the same exact thing in high school! But who can blame us? Amy Blue is such a babe.

Sorry for the lack of updates, Megan and I are currently on the tail end of our epic cross-country road trip. So far it's been pretty comparable to Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone's journey in the Crazy video, minus the unfortunate belly button piercing*. But who knows, we could get all Thelma & Louise by the end of this thing.
*oops! The belly button piercing was in the equally epic Cryin' video. Did you know that Sawyer from Lost plays the dude who steals Alicia Silverstone's purse? Classic.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've spent the last few days mass-producing thousands of badges which will be packaged with the new issue of Chelsea. I have barely left the house, I have band-aids wrapped around all of my fingertips, and I re-watched an entire season of Jack & Bobby (R.I.P.) on Netflix watch instantly, which was actually pretty amazing. But anyway, I have to get back to making Anna Nicole Smith badges (one of twelve designs), more updates soon!
